The Burton Family Foundation Helps Southern Arizona Shine Forward with $10,000 Gift
Generosity has a way of multiplying. A gift supports an organization. That organization serves a family, protects an animal, feeds a neighbor, mentors a young person, preserves something worth protecting, or meets a need that might otherwise go unanswered.
And sometimes, a gift creates an opportunity for an entire community to give more.
The Greater Green Valley Community Foundation is deeply grateful to the Burton Family Foundation for a generous $10,000 contribution to the Shine Forward Southern Arizona Prize Pool, bringing this year's total prize pool to $25,000.
The gift joins $10,000 previously committed by an anonymous donor and $5,000 from the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation. During the November Shine Forward campaign, participating nonprofits will have opportunities to earn a share of those funds as they rally supporters and work toward their individual fundraising goals.
But this $10,000 gift is part of a much bigger story.
A Continued Investment in Southern Arizona
The Burton Family Foundation has become an important partner in strengthening nonprofit organizations and communities throughout Arizona.
Since 2015, the Foundation has invested in organizations working in youth development, education and human services, with particular attention to high-need, underserved and underrepresented communities. In recent years, that commitment has increasingly reached beyond Arizona's largest population centers.
The Burton Family Foundation has intentionally expanded its rural grantmaking, recognizing that smaller communities face many of the same needs as metropolitan areas while often having access to fewer philanthropic resources. As part of that effort, Burton began collaborating with regional partners, including the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation, to better understand local needs and help direct resources where they can have meaningful impact. We have already seen what that partnership can accomplish here at home.
Recently, the Burton Family Foundation and Greater Green Valley Community Foundation together awarded more than $112,000 in grants to 32 nonprofit organizations serving communities along the I-19 corridor.
Now, Burton is investing in our nonprofit community again.
Helping Local Organizations Shine Forward
Shine Forward Southern Arizona was created to illuminate nonprofit needs and make it easier for people to discover organizations doing important work across Sahuarita, Green Valley, Amado, Arivaca, Tubac, Rio Rico and Nogales.
It isn't simply a November fundraising campaign.
It is a year-round effort to connect people with causes that matter to them and expand the visibility and reach of the nonprofit organizations serving Southern Arizona. Their additional $10,000 means $25,000 will now be available through the Shine Forward Prize Pool, creating even more opportunity for participating nonprofits to turn the generosity of their supporters into additional funding for their missions.
And that is what makes this gift especially meaningful.
