Southern Arizona Shines Brighter When We Show Up for One Another
What makes a community strong? It isn't one organization, one business, one donor, or one volunteer. It is what happens when all of them show up.
Across Green Valley, Sahuarita and Southern Arizona, nonprofit organizations are working every day to support children and families, care for seniors, rescue animals, assist veterans, preserve our history, enrich the arts and provide resources for neighbors who need a helping hand.
Local businesses sponsor events and support causes. Volunteers give their time and expertise. Donors provide critical financial support. Residents attend fundraisers, share information and introduce friends to organizations they believe in.
Each action may seem small individually, but together they create a stronger community.
That spirit of connection is at the heart of Shine Forward Southern Arizona, a year-round initiative of the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation created to help people discover, connect with and support the nonprofit organizations serving our region.
Giving Back Doesn't Always Mean Writing a Check
Financial contributions are essential to nonprofit organizations, but they're only one form of community support.
Throughout Southern Arizona, organizations need volunteers, advocates, event attendees, business partners, and people willing to share their stories.
Recent opportunities throughout our region show just how many ways there are to participate.
Residents can volunteer with organizations serving seniors, provide companionship to hospice patients, assist local healthcare facilities, support public safety organizations or lend their talents behind the scenes.
Others may choose to support a nonprofit by attending a fundraiser, concert, community celebration or special event.
The important thing is finding a way to participate that works for you.
Local Events Create Community Connections
Some of the easiest ways to discover the organizations serving our region are also some of the most enjoyable.
Local nonprofit events give residents an opportunity to learn about important causes while spending time with friends and neighbors.
From Valley Assistance Services' Runway of Hope Fashion Show to performances by the Green Valley Community Chorus and community fundraisers like Bridle Up Hope Tucson's Open House, organizations throughout Southern Arizona are creating opportunities for people to gather while supporting their missions.

Sip, Swirl, Shop & Shine Forward
One place all of these pieces will come together this fall is the 4th Annual Sip, Swirl, Shop & Shine Forward with Holiday Market, presented by the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation.
The event takes place Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic Canoa Ranch in Green Valley.
Arizona wineries, Tucson craft breweries, local businesses, more than 35 holiday vendors, food trucks, nonprofit organizations and community members will gather for an afternoon of tasting, shopping, music and connection.
Tasting tickets are $30 and include 10 wine or beer tastings, while admission to the Holiday Market is free.
This year's event also provides an opportunity to introduce even more people to Shine Forward Southern Arizona.
Shine Forward Is Bigger Than One Event
While November brings additional attention to charitable giving, Shine Forward Southern Arizona is a year-round initiative.
Its purpose is to help people discover the nonprofit organizations and community causes serving Green Valley, Sahuarita, Amado, Arivaca, Tubac, Tumacácori, Rio Rico, Nogales and surrounding communities.
Through nonprofit stories, volunteer opportunities, community events and opportunities to give, Shine Forward creates another bridge between people who want to make a difference and organizations already doing the work.
That bridge matters.
People are often willing to help. They simply need to know where the need exists and how they can participate.
